The First Law is a story about a world not
much like our own, but with enough resemblances to make you think.
The story itself is focused on a small pack of Garou, Werewolves.
In this world Werewolves are the protectors of Gaia, the spirit of
Earth. Keeping her safe from the forces of the Wyrm, or at least trying
to. Unfortunately for the Garou they are fighting a losing battle,
as the world slowly spirals into decay… decay that is leading
directly to the Apocalypse. Ragnarok is just around the bend and there
is no way to stop it.
The story follows this pack because they are special, they are all
formed of Metis.
Metis Garou are the offspring of two Garou.
The result of the pairing of two Werewolves. You see, Werewolves are
not created by a Bite. They are Born. Garou are a Species unto themselves
but then again they are not. They are a melding of spirit and flesh
to create a whole, the Metis are a result of too much spirit for one
body to handle. Metis are all ostracized, not only because their conception
was a breaking of the First Law, but because they are all born deformed.
Some instability exists in each Metis, be it physical, mental, or
spiritual.
This is why the First Law Pack was formed.
The Metis are expendable.
The First Law Pack was formed to be an open
handed group made of not so perfect individuals that, while skilled,
would not be missed. And yet, they find themselves at the center of
Ragnarok itself…
